The Wonders of Christmas

Christmas is the holiday majority of Filipinos, including myself, look forward to every year. Once the "Ber" months begin, the entire country will become a joyful utopia. In the Philippines, four months are dedicated to celebrating Christmas. This shows how much Filipinos value Christmas. My favorite  memories are the ones I cherish with my family and friends. When families get together to share meals and exchange gifts. The comfort, love, and joy that the Christmas season offers us. For many, it truly is a favorite feeling. In this blog, I will unwrap every single aspect that makes Christmas special.

Christmas decorations are what I personally love the most. During the month of September, the Christmas tree of every Filipino household is already put up. And from then on, twinkling lights, parols – a star-shaped lantern made out of bamboo and colorful paper, and many other vibrant decorations will appear along the streets. These Christmas decorations symbolizes light, hope and the spirit of the season.

There are many traditions dedicated to Christmas. One of these traditions is Simbang Gabi – a series of nine masses at dawn held from the 16th of December to Christmas eve. This is a religious ceremony that brings families or the community together to get ready for the Misa de Gallo on Christmas eve and celebrate the birth of Jesus. There is something soothing about getting up early in the morning, putting on a nice dress, and heading to church with the family. Also, the nostalgic aroma of the well-known puto bumbong and bibingka that will welcome you in front of the church.

And most importantly, family gatherings and the Noche Buena. Christmas wouldn't be complete without family reunions. The Noche Buena is when families come together to share laughter, stories, and joy to one another. Filipino dishes such as letchon, pancit, queso de bola, hamon, and bibingka will always be present at the dinner table. The famous ampao or red envelope from our titos and titas. This family get together encapsulates unity, abundance, and the importance of togetherness. It is a time wherein we create memories that each family member will cherish.

There's more to Christmas than meets the eye. It is made up of the beautiful traditions, family customs, and the spirit of giving. Christmas is made wonderful by the small things. It's a time when the values of unity, love, and empathy shine through, creating memories and strengthening relationships. Christmas is right around the corner so let's celebrate and greet it with love. Have an enchanting holiday celebration!
